      Mentioned in the Domesday Book and a market town by Royal Charter since the early thirteenth century, Warrington has experienced two significant upheavals in its history: Victorian improvements between the s and the First World War, which cleared away much of its medieval core; and its designation as a New Town in , whose modernisation.
